post 15 Final Reflection





This project made me learn more about what I eat in my culture and why we eat it. Also, I learned more about my culture and how to cook more and it made me view food differently and its connection to me as a person. Now I can see how food effects emotions and how we have favorite foods. Having a favorite food means that you love the food so much that it makes you happy when your're sad and it brings back memories of the first time you ate it. Also eating it part of our life's and it depends if it home made or store brought because home made is natural and store brought is unnatural. Meaning its not from you, it came from some one else and to have home made it have to be from your heart.

Post 13 Holidays




       In my family we celebrate every holiday and we have as much fun as we can. However, there are not specific food we eat, we just eat whatever. But mostly my mom cooks jollof rice because every one loves it and then I make the salads and its the best! Mostly Christmas, new years, mothers and fathers day and more. The way we celebrate all of these holidays is by eating and having fun. However, it seems like jollof rices is really important in out culture for so many reason, and i don't know what those Ghanaian life's will be without a great food like that.

Post 12 Food, Family, and Culture

        

       There are certain foods all round the world that goes with our culture and its important to us. For example, every countries have their favorite food they love and its always the food the family cooks at home which makes it the best. Moreover, everyone in my family loves jollof rice and its the best when my mom cooks it so word I. Also, the relationship between food, family, and culture is that everything is one. Meaning, our family is the same culture, we eat our culture food and that's the same into one. And also we love and eat the same food from our culture.

Post 11 Legacy


         
        All these food will be my favorite forever and I will never stop eating it. In fact I learn from how my mom cooks and now I can cook it all the time if I have to. When I have a family of my own, I'll make sure they love it and they know how to cook it too and it will keep going and then they'll show their kids. I think its important to understand their own food culture. Furthermore, I learned how to cook fried rice by watching my dad and now I can cook it my self and that's how its going to be with my children.

      If I was a food, I think I would be a jollof rice because everyone loves it and its tastes so good. Moreover, I would be eaten up very quick and that's crazy. I love this food so much because I have eaten it since I was a kid and also it depends and hows its cooked. Because sometimes it tastes good and the smell makes you feel emotional which is good because you love it. For example kids, this food makes them feel happy when they are sad so me being this food would be very helpful.

Banku /Akple: Fermented corn/cassava dough mixed proportionally and cooked in hot water into a smooth, whitish consistent paste. Served with soup, stew or a pepper sauce with fish.

How To Prepare Banku


  • What you need
  • six to eight cups of corn (maize)
  •  flour or cornmeal (ground corn or ground maize);
  •  (White cornmeal is preferred, it should be finely ground, like flour.
  •  Latin American style corn flour, as is used in tortillas,
  •  tamales,
  •  pupusas, etc. is the right kind); for Banku only: a similar amount of equal parts corn flour and grated cassava tuber may be substituted.

A Comparison With Christopher Bello





        Around the world people have different foods that represent something to them. However, Christopher's favorite food is Rice, Beans and Meat. Also, we eat rice and beans in my culture and we love it like the Dominican's. The first time he ate Rice, Beans and Meat was when he was in Dominican Republic. He was a little baby and so words I. As a child we don't like the meat but we love the beans and meat. However, we kept eating it over and over then we overcame it. My mom said all I loved was rice and I won't eat anything else and I would cry and she would have to make more or buy more. However, now that I'm a big boy I try different foods from different culture and they taste fantastic.

Post 7 How To Prepare Your Favorite Dish




  • Peel and cut the yam tuber into 1 inch cylindrical discs. 
  • Make several cuts across the discs to get large chips. 
  • Wash the yam and place in a bowl.
  • Add a little salt and toss the contents to distribute the salt.

  • If you are using a deep fryer, pour enough vegetable oil into the fryer as per the instructions manual and preheat the oil to 170°C.
  •  You can also use a pot to fry the yam. It is preferable to use a pot rather than a frying pan for this fried yam recipe because pots provide more depth for the frying process.
  • When the oil is heated, add a few yam, leaving enough room for flipping the yams.
  • Stir the yams till they have turned golden.
  • Remove the yams and place in paper towels to absorb the oil.

       My mom experiences and opinions of this type of food is that she doesn't like it much but she loves to cook it because it easy and fast. Moreover, has cooked it many times in her life and she cooks it differently from the regular jollof rice in restaurants that have jollof rice. She adds Goya beans so we can be healthy rather than just eating the normal rice. If its Goya.. its has to be good! My mom show me how to prepare it her way because that's how she cooks it and its the healthy way to cook it so sometimes I cook it myself and it tastes delicious. Furthermore, I add my own ingredients to change it up a little bit and I call it “Chef Eddy” And my dad taught me how to cook fried rices and its the best, I cooked it myself and made it better than my dad’s.

       When I’m always hungry and I come home or something, this food is always prepared. Also when I’m having a bad day the food and the emotions makes me feel better. Moreover the smell of that delicious food crosses my face and all the bad feelings go away. Food affects our emotions in many ways and it depends the way we're feeling and the food we're eating. For example, eating your favorite dish can tell you the way you’re feeling which affects our emotions. For example my little brother loves jollof rices and every time my mom cooks it hes happy and every time he finish eating he wants more and that effects hows he feeling.

The History Of My Food



       My favorite foods are too many, but I will go with jollof rice.The origin of Jollof Rice is traceable to the Jollof tribe in the Senegambia region of West Africa. Jollof rice is also called “Benachin” which means “one pot” in the Wolof language. The traditional ingredients are rice, fresh tomatoes, tomato paste, onion, salt, and chili pepper. Other ingredients such as fish, vegetables, meats, ginger and other spices can be added to enhance the taste. Today Jollof rice can be prepared in different ways by the various peoples that savor it but the basic ingredients remain the same. Jollof rice is eaten in Nigerians, U.S and many other countries. And it’s found in New York City, there’s a lot of Ghanaian restaurant’s in the NYC.

       There were many people in my neighborhood in Ghana, I knew mostly all of them, and we were all close friends. In our neighborhood all the food were common, we’re all Ghanaian so we eat common foods like plantain. Moreover, there was the store that sells plantain and beans so we all get money and buy it, but we mostly make it at home and there’s a little difference because the one at the store is homemade too. Also, there are many restaurants in Ghana with lots of foods to try if you've never eaten it before. However, we didn't go to the restaurants much but it’s all the same and I've been to some and I loved the foods there.

       The first time I ate these foods were long time from now, can’t even remember. However, I remember going to the restaurant in Ghana with my whole family and we brought jollof rice and kebab.It was the best food ever, it had a great taste and a great smell and every party Ghanaians have.. there’s always jollof and kebab because those food are the best and everyone loves it. When I’m eating those foods, it makes me feel good and at the same time I’m hungry so all I can focus on is the food and how good it is. It makes you feel full when you’re done, and then you don't want to eat no more. However, once you eat it, you will love it forever.

My Favorite Foods

       In Ghana there are many foods to eat and they taste so good you will die when you try it. My three Favorite foods from my country is Jollof rice, fried yams, kenkey, kebab and more.They are prepared easily, and very delicious. Moreover, they can be prepared in different ways and mostly all of them in onions. However, Jollof rice needs rice of course, a can of tomatoes and spices. It’s really easy. I can make it myself. Also kebab is made out of meat, onions, spices, and green pepper. Fried yams is the easiest, all you have to do is fry it and you eat it with fish and some pepper. My favorite one is kebab because it tastes so good and you will keep on eating it if you have to. Moreover, fried yams and jollof rices are also the best! Every Ghanaian kid loves jollof rice for some reason because it just taste so freaking good. However, it depends on how you cook it. Some might cook it bad, some might cook it very very good like me and my parents.
